Arriving in New Orleans in 1722, the Original vampire siblings hope they’ve escaped their dangerous past. But when Klaus falls for the wrong woman, a witch named Vivienne, betrothed to a werewolf for a union that should bring peace between the witches and the werewolves. She is the only girl in New Orleans that is off limits to the Mikaelsons. Klaus immediately plans to make Vivienne his own. Elijah hunts for a home to call their own, while Rebekah infiltrates a camp of human soldiers in search of allies.
I requested for this book because of my love for The Vampire Diaries as well as The Originals TV series, but I found it quite hard to get through this book. This may since be that I not long ago watched season 1 of The Originals or because I had higher expectations.

In saying that though I did enjoy reading bits and pieces of information that was               not in the TV show. This book also gave me a better understanding to what was actually happening during the show. I found myself loving Elijah more during reading than watching. I am deeply engaged in his character’s personality of noble, honorable, moral and compassionate acts. Making Elijah my favorite Original. I see Rebekah as beautiful, carefree, adventurous, and free-spirited making her an inspiration and she is described so amazingly in The Originals. Nicklaus on the other hand is a very love-hated character in my opinion, making it hard to decide if I trust him or not. One page I may be drooling over him and then the next I would want to remove him from my life. He is my guilty pleasure.
I think I would have devoured this book if I hadn’t watched it on TV. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed this read and would recommend it to any Vampire Diaries and Originals lover! I give The Originals: The Rise 4/5 stars.
